+ not a **prediction** of the outcome
  + i.e., "you could try, but you'll fail"
+ but a moral **judgment**:
  + "you build according to a **lie**"
  + your **value** system deceives you
  + **contrary** to God's truth
+ not just "**worldly**" projects (money)
  + but even projects done **for God**:
+ e.g., King **David**, when secure in reign
  + proposed a great **project** for God:

“Here I am, living in a **house of cedar**, 
while the **ark** of the covenant of the Lord 
is under a **tent**.”

and I will establish **his kingdom**.

  + v1(b) is about **security**:

+ this refers to our sense of **security**
  + i.e., what do we **fear**?
+ What is my **safety net**?
  + Money? Education? (US: guns)
  + are these really able to **protect** us?
+ As I get old/ill: how will I **survive**?
  + enough money in **retirement**?
+ Jesus gives us **comfort** in famous
  + Sermon on the **Mount**:

So **do not worry**, saying, 
‘What shall we **eat**?’ 
or ‘What shall we **drink**?’ 
or ‘What shall we **wear**?’

For the **pagans** run after all these things, 
and your **heavenly Father** 
**knows** that you need them.

  + **trusting** God to take care of us

  + **body** tells me it's time to sleep
  + but I **refuse**: too much work to do
+ ⇒ Going to sleep is an act of **faith**

  + **yield** to God's design for my body
+ "toiling": eat bread of **suffering**
+ **work** was originally **good**:
  + fruitful, **fulfilling**, fun
+ but because of mankind's **sin**:
  + work was **cursed**:

**Cursed** is the ground because of you; 
through **painful toil** 
you will eat **food** from it 
all the days of your life.

God gives some people 
**wealth**, **possessions** and **honor**, 
so that they **lack nothing**
their hearts desire, ...

the ability to **enjoy** them, 
and **strangers** enjoy them instead.

This is **meaningless**, a grievous evil.

+ we have fruitful **labour** given by God
  + not from **obligation**
  + but His deep **love** for us
+ **rest** in God's abundant **grace**:
  + He **provides**

The **sleep** of a **laborer** is sweet, 
whether they eat **little** or much,

but as for the **rich**, 
their abundance permits them **no sleep**.

  + only bc of **relation** w/the Father

are children born in one’s youth.

whose quiver is full of them.

  + not a **right**, but a **gift**
+ "warrior": mighty **champion** of valour
  + "arrows": directed **intent**

+ **quiver** full: gift, not a **pursuit**
  + not just cranking out more **babies**
  + every child a **blessing**
  + responsibility to **train** each one

A **wise son** brings **joy** to his father, 
but a **foolish son** brings **grief** to his mother.

# **Why** does God give us **children**?

  + **entrusted** to us in His **grace**
  + to **train** according to God's way
  + as a **testimony** to God's glory
